Supporting Charities
Rotary Radio UK is pleased to announce that our Charity of the Year for 2024/25 is Medical Detection Dogs
Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of human disease. It is at the forefront of the research into the fight against cancer and helping people with life-threatening diseases.
The charity’s Bio Detection Dogs are trained to find the odour of diseases, such as cancer, in samples such as urine and swabs. Medical Alert Assistance Dogs are trained to detect minute changes in an individual’s personal odour triggered by their disease and alert them to an impending medical event. Medical Detection Dogs receives no government funding for the work they do and rely entirely on the generosity of donations from trusts and the public.

Rotary Radio UK Supporting Water Survival Box
On Thursday 14th March 2024 [Steve Wood Rotarian and Station Presenter] visited the Water Survival Box team at their main depot at Westfield, a few miles outside Bath. Staffed by members of a number of Rotary clubs in the area the charity prepares water survival boxes, which contain a water purification pump, water carriers and a range of essential items that will enable people whose homes and life support systems have been swept away by a "natural" or man-made disaster. At each meeting of the team 60 boxes are packed and stored on pallets ready for dispatch when disaster strikes. The charity purchases all the equipment that go into the boxes using funds donated by people from its fund-raising efforts.
We are creating a video of our visit and the work of Water Survival Box and we will post this in the near future.
